Local Government:



Newton County is governed by an elected Board of Commissioners consisting of a full-time Chairman who is elected “at large” and five District Commissioners.  The daily operations of the county are handled by the County Administrator. 



Newton County has five municipalities:  Covington, which is the county seat; Porterdale, Oxford, Mansfield and Newborn.  Each of the cities has their own Mayor and City Council.  The daily operations of the municipalities are handled by a City Manager.
