Covington, Georgia is the urban center of commerce for Newton County. The city contains over 18,000 people, with the county over 80,000. Electricity
Newton County is prepared to meet the demands of commercial and industrial customers. Electrical power is provided by several major companies:

*Large electricity users with connected loads greater than 900 kW can choose their electric supplier for new facilities.

Natural Gas
The City of Covington provides natural gas for customers in the city limits and some of the surrounding areas via their private system. Atlanta Gas Light Company continues to operate its pipeline systems in the western portion of the county. Residents or businesses in the county may purchase natural gas from a variety of providers, or marketers. The marketers set their own prices and arrange for the sale and distribution of gas to their customers; however, they use Atlanta Gas Light's piplines to deliver the gas. Water & Sewer
The City of Covington provides water and sewer services to the residents and businesses in the city limits and some surrounding areas. Outside the city limits, the Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority provides service for residents and businesses.
