Government

Newton County is governed by an elected Board of Commissioners consisting of a full-time Chairman who is elected "at large" and five District Commissioners.  The daily operations of the county are handled by the County Administrator.

Newton County has finve municipalities: Covington, which is the County Seat; Porterdale; Oxford; Mansfield and Newborn.  Each of the cities has their own Mayor and City Council.  The daily operations of the cities are handled by a City Manager.
