Newton County School System
With over 19,000 students enrolled, that makes the Newton County School system the largest stakeholder in Newton County. Over the last 8 years, nine new schools have been built, 57 additional classrooms have been constructed, a new Board of Education building, and a new Service Center to house the maintenance, warehouse, and transportation department in one central location.
The Newton County School System services the entire county including the five municipalities located within the county. The 20 schools are organized into:
-
Twelve elementary schools (grade PreK - 5)
-
Four middle schools (grades 6 - 8)
-
Three high schools (grades 9 - 12)
-
One alternative school (grades 7 - 12)
Newton County residents are proud of their growing school system. Over the last six years, improvements have been made on standardized achievement tests. The average SAT score has topped the state and national average for the past four years while the dropout rate has been reduced to well below the state average.
